Perhaps you’ve all heard of the sex pamphlet put out (heh. put out.) by Britain’s National Health Service for adult educators of teens? The one that says these educators should include discussions of pleasure and the complexity of human relationships when talking to teens about sex? What a concept. And yet, predictably, US finger-wagglers are waggling their fingers in Britain’s general direction, claiming that should kids hear that sex is fun, sexual anarchy will ensue in the hallowed halls of high school. After all, the fun-ness of sex is a well-guarded adult secret.
Violet Blue has a lovely rant about teen sex-phobia on the San Francisco Chronicle’s website. Check it out. Here’s a choice quote:
In my opinion, the conservative backlash just shows me that America’s anti-sex, anti-pleasure pundits are the ones who will enact their greatest fears and lose their f—ing minds should they give in to a single moment of pleasure. They don’t have the decision-making skills to know what’s appropriate and safe, and what’s not — because they’ve denied this type of understanding and exploration of sex’s pleasure principles from everyone else for so long.
