Staff Review: Gina vibe

It’s possible that I may have complained a wee bit in the past about the crappy sex toy “innovations” we see a lot of the time… but I suspect I’ve been remiss in talking about some of the amazing new advances we see in dildonics (dildonics! I love that word) every now and again. One of the most wondrous innovators is a company called Lelo. We carry several of their toys (see: Nea, Iris, Mia, and Pebble), but the apple of my eye is a little number we call Gina.

There is no shortage of g-spot toys on the market, some of which run as inexpensive as $14 (such as our beloved Tula), which might make one wonder: why spend $109 on a vibrator? Isn’t that a smidge extreme? Ordinarily I would agree with you, but Gina is special. So many g-spot vibrators have designs reminiscent of Captain Hook, as though the g-spot was something that needed to be scratched, or, heaven forbid, snagged like a fish. Ouchie! And if that wasn’t enough, once you actually get that “hook” in the right vicinity, you have to find just the right spot to poke at. So many g-spotters just don’t have the surface area you need to comfortably and effectively stimulate your sensitive areas. Plus, as we’ve discussed earlier, the g-spot isn’t a spot, per se, but rather part of the whole. So what gives?

Gina is so well-designed. It is perfect for g-spotting — it has a wide, flat area for stimulating more of the g-spot and surrounding area and a gentle curve, it isn’t too thick or too thin, why, it’s almost as if the designers had an actual vagina in mind when they designed it. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. The design also allows for clitoral stimulation (if you’re holding the toy close to your body as you use it) or at the very least, some indirect clit stimulation. The material is silky-soft, high quality, long-lasting silicone. The vibration has a wide range of intensities, from low and gentle to really quite strong, and you have the option of five different vibration patterns, should you choose. Oh, and it’s rechargeable (like all Lelo vibes) and comes with its own recharger, storage box and a 1-year warranty from Lelo. And if g-spotting isn’t your speed, you can use Gina on your clit too… the sky is the limit! This toy is damn near perfect, I tell you.

And here’s even more good news. If you love the shape of Gina but don’t really need the vibration or bells and whistles, you can get a non-vibrating dildo version of that incredible shape — in a Lelo dildo we call Ellen for the quite affordable price of $40.

Fie on you, Captain Hook g-spotters! I’ll take Gina over you any day!

Any particular reason for renaming it? I mean, that's the Gigi, and what you call Ellen is really the Ella, etc.
  • Actually yes.... When we opened the shop in 2001, most of the toys had terrible names like "Clit Banger" or generic names like "7" Waterproof Vibe". To make the toys more approachable and to ease confusion with toys that had similar names, we re-named most of the toys.
Then manufacturers starting coming around with toys that had nice name like Gigi and Ella - problem was, we already had toys with those names! Ella has been one of our best selling vibe for years, so it made sense to tweek Lelo's Ella to Ellen so that our Ella could continue under her given name. And since, at the time, we had a much loved (but not discontinued) GiGi, we made Lelo's into Gina.

    Hope this clears things up!
