A ban on fake hymens

I love when media outlets (and, I guess, the world at large) do my work for me. It makes it so easy just to kick back, paste a link, and press publish.

Like this.

Personally, I think the idea of a fake hymen is pretty ingenious in countries that rely on this, shall we say, ephemeral tissue to provide proof-positive of a woman’s purity. Particularly in countries where “evidence” of pre-marital sex can lead to the maiming and murder of women.  Even if these women have not engaged in pre-marital intercourse, there’s no guarantee that their hymen is intact! How terrifying to be put in that position.

Given what I know about the strict customs regulations for mail in many Middle Eastern countries, I suspect many fake hymen packages are detained before they ever reach their new home. This fact and fear of discovery (or lack of internet access) must keep some women from buying the product who would otherwise do so. With that in mind, what I want to know is, who else is buying these?
