I’ve loved Iceland since I visited a few years ago. I stumbled across the rehearsal for the Miss Iceland pageant, climbed a volcano where Bjork performed, and was laughed at for not wanting to eat a cow’s face. So of course I was excited to hear their parliment unanimously voted to legalize gay marriage. But this just gives me warm fuzzies all over: last weekend prime minister Johanna Sigurdardottir jumped on the new legislation and married her domestic partner, Jonina Leosdottir. Not only is she the first openly gay head of state; she gets to be married to her beau. Yay!
