RealDoll Video

You’ve got to watch this short documentary from California is a Place about the making of RealDolls. These ultra-realistic sex dolls have infiltrated pop culture (remember Lars and the Real Girl?) and have changed the possibilities for future intersections between sex and technology. I found it interesting that RealDoll creator, Matt McMullen, was a sculptor before a sex toy designer. His first love was sculpting the figure, and it is mesmerizing to watch him work. Regardless of how you feel about the sex doll phenomenon, this video makes it clear that each individual doll is a piece of art. Kind of like a sexed-up Ron Mueck. Kind of. Matt also admits to the necessity of trying out his creations and discusses the possibility of robotocizing  the dolls. I also love the accordion music in the background…

Monika, I prefer a natural woman.
Women in my mind are not supposed to have a six pac and wear a size zero.
Soft and nurturing. When did that become unsexy?

BUT, on that note, these dolls are difficult to move as they are, yet alone if they were a size 14.

I'm a bit creeped out by this phenomenon, but it is rather fascinating. I think it'll remain a taboo or a source of comedy, but it's interesting how "real" something fake can be.

What kinda bugs me more though, is the complete super model type body. I'm curious if there's even any demand for a real sized woman.
