Rope Fundamentals: Building Your Basics

Rope Fundamentals: Building Your Basics is a beginner-friendly class designed to give you the essential skills to start tying with confidence. We will begin with a short welcome and overview, followed by a discussion of nerve risks, circulation, and communication.
From there, we will cover rope handling basics: how to coil and uncoil rope, keep your rope organized, and manage tension while tying. Once everyone is comfortable with handling, we will move into learning foundational structures: including the single column, single column with a cinch (double column), half hitches, and reverse tension.
We will finish by combining these structures to create fun shapes that encourage play, connection, and intimacy, giving you practical tools to take home and practice. The class will close with time for reflection, questions, and information about local rope spaces and upcoming classes in Chicago.
Rope will be available to borrow, and Early to Bed will also have rope for purchase if you would like to continue practicing at home.
This class is open to all experience levels, and both solo and partnered attendees are welcome. You will leave with the fundamental building blocks to explore rope more confidently and safely.

Jesse is a queer, polyamorous, neurodivergent rope enthusiast and a brat through and through. Based in Chicago, they have been tying since 2021 and began bottoming regularly about two years ago.
As a top, Jesse enjoys rope that can be playful, connective, sadistic, or just plain goofy—sometimes all at once. As a bottom, they love the sensation of being in rope, whether it makes them feel strong, sexy, or grounded. They especially enjoy collaborating with tops to explore their desires and co-create meaningful experiences.
Outside of rope, Jesse spends their time building and connecting communities, caring for their geriatric pets (we have 4), rock climbing, and—more recently—lifting heavy things for fun.

Sara is a switch who has been doing rope on both sides of the slash for just over five years. Sara started out self-tying, but finds their true passion lies in tying others with a focus on rope that is beautiful, challenging, and tailored to the person in rope.
Sara has learned from many teachers in the past several years, and has spent countless hours noodling on both the technical and emotional details of rope bondage.
Outside of rope, Sara spends their time doing internet deep dives on historical figures, watching trash tv, and attempting to finish their dissertation.
Workshops are held at our Chicago store - 5138 N Clark St.
There are no refunds on ticket purchases. If you cancel up to 2 days before the workshop you will be issued a store credit for your ticket purchase price. If you cancel later than that or do not show, no credits will be issued.
Face masks are required at all events. We will happily provide you one if you forget yours.
